A Utah Winter 1/2019
Winter was fresh and our hearts were ready.
Reared up for the new year, Sean and I were giddy to go on our first trip of 2019. We hopped in the Xterra and left LA for Utah. Determined to go on a minimalist adventure, Sean and I brought our tent, sleeping bags, and tons of blankets. We prepared for the 7 degree weather, but underestimated the intense snowfall that followed. Upon arriving at Bryce Canyon, we quickly realized the snow would trap us in—and we didn’t have tire chains! Unfortunately, our minimalist style seeped into our planning efforts, which meant we were in for a rough time if we didn’t make some moves. So instead of camping in the snowfall, we decided to car camp it until the next morning. We were lucky to make it out of the park thanks to snow plows scanning the area. But without their help, we might have been stuck.
Our first morning in Utah and we were greeted by a fresh Winter wonderland.
Bryce Canyon was the wackiest canyon I’ve ever seen. Foggy hoodoos made it even more other-worldly.
After Bryce, we set out for Grand Staircase Escalante. The massive monument ate us up in an instant and spat us out 3 days later. What we saw inside was some of the most beautiful natural structures in the American Southwest.
These rocks felt like city buildings on Tatooine.
